Overview of the original EMEWS project

The European Mobile Early Warning System (EMEWS) is a collection of software and hardware used to monitor volcanoes. The EMEWS was originally designed for mobile, real-time network but it can also be deployed as a fixed volcano monitoring system.

This user guide explains how to install the individual elements and how to connect them together to form the EMEWS. It also contains links to download software, to third-party organizations and to manufacturers of equipment.

EMEWS started as an European Union project in the Environment and Climate research and technological development program (contract n° ENV4980728) and was funded from August 1998 to July 2000. The intermediary and final report of this project are available in pdf format and requires the Acrobat Reader version 4 and above. If you are unable to read the file you can download an Acrobat Reader for your platform by clicking on the icon below, most operating system are supported.
